Thoroughbreds Tame Bobcats For Second Straight Win

The Thoroughbreds men's basketball team defeated Bryant & Stratton of Virginia's junior varsity team 87-46 last night at Hope Community Church Arena.

BLC (7-4 overall; 1-2 NSAC) got off to a fast start against the Bobcats. Head coach Nolan Adams made changes to his starting lineup from the past two games and it paid early dividends. Freshman forward Wol Yak (18 points) took the tip-off, raced down the court and slammed it home for the first two points of the game, setting the tone for the remainder of the contest. Bobcats head coach Joshua Russell called a timeout to in the opening minutes of the game to make adjustments, but everything his team tried was met with resistance. BSC-VA (2-11) was held to just 24 points in the first half, thanks to a flurry of takeaways by the aggressive Thoroughbreds.

With the Herd up 48-24 at the halftime break, Russell and his team stayed on the bench as opposed to going to their locker room prior to second half warmups, hoping to create a spark. BLC outscored the Bobcats 39-22 in the final 20 minutes, never trailing at any point in the game en route to a 41-point victory.

Freshman power forward Keyshawn Bryant led the Thoroughbreds with 23 points. First-year combo guard Miigwaanhs Barrientoz added 13 points and made three shots from beyond the arc.

With the win, the Thoroughbreds improve to 6-1 at home this season. This Saturday, the Herd will travel to Elizabeth City, N.C. to play Mid-Atlantic Christian in a pivotal NSAC matchup. Tip-off between the Thoroughbreds and Mustangs is scheduled for at 2pm on the USCAA Sports Network. BLC returns home on February 7th against Virginia Peninsula Community College in their second straight conference tilt.
