Elizabeth City, NC -- Sophomore Kenny Anderson connected on a three pointer with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game for the first and only time, but the rally fell short in overtime as Blue Lights fell to undefeated Mid-Atlantic Christian 101-92 on Saturday,

The Thoroughbreds (0-2, 0-1 NSAC) trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half before starting to chip away at the deficit. Anderson's three was the result of a play drawn up by coach Mario Pharr during a timeout, and the Herd ran it to perfection, tying the game at 81 to force the extra period. But the Mustangs (4-0, 2-0 NSAC) made key free throws in overtime to secure the victory.

Anderson poured in 29 points on 12 of 20 shooting from the field to lead all scorers. Freshman Jeremiah Baker contributed 25 points and 9 rebounds. Fellow freshman Denzel Jacobson had a game-high 17 rebounds to go along with his 21 points. Senior Kevin Fletcher led the Mustangs with 25.

The game marked the first conference contest for BLC, which led in the formation of the New South Athletic Conference last summer.

The Thoroughbreds open their home schedule Tuesday night when they host University Prep in a non-conference matchup. Per COVID-19 restrictions on athletic events, there will be no in-person fan attendance. The game will be streamed on bluelightsthoroughbreds.com, the Mascot Media app, and on the Thoroughbreds' YouTube channel (Blue Lights Thoroughbreds).
