Blue Lights fought back from a 14-point halftime deficit to take the lead, and only to see it slip away Friday afternoon inn 80-76 heartbreaking loss to #17 Davis College in the Bible College National Invitational Tournament.
Davis, the top seed and ranked 17th in USCAA Division 2, came out with a smothering defense that caught the Thoroughbreds off guard and half them to 11-35 shooting (31.4%) before the break.
But coach Mario Pharr made adjustments at halftime, the Thoroughbreds regrouped, and the Lights came on. Trailing 38-24 to being the second stanza, BLC began to chip away methodically, vexing Davis defensively and finding the shooting touch that had so far eluded them, pulling with 10 at 43-33 with 17:07 to play, then to 56-53 on a Richard Campbell and-one with 10:53 to go.
Blue Lights (11-10) took its first lead on a Zachary Haney layup, 67-65, with 5:45 remaining, but the Falcons would not go quietly. It was a back and forth battle with several ties and lead changes down the stretch before Davis sealed the deal in the final seconds.
Campbell led the Lights with 21 points,
The Herd moves to the 3rd place game on Saturday at 3:00 pm, facing 3rd seed Trinity College.
