The Blue Lights College men's basketball team had one of its best shooting performances of the season Thursday night, but the Thoroughbreds fell short to NJCAA Region X champion Sandhills CC 106-94 in Pinehurst.

The Thoroughbreds (8-6) started strong, but the Flyers got hot late in the first half to take a 57-46 lead into the locker room. BLC recovered after the break but could not close the gap.

"It was that run," said interim head coach Mario Pharr. "Great effort, though. That's a really good program. We came out and hit them in the mouth early as always, and they will never forget us!"

The loss halted a four-game winning streak, the longest in Thoroughbred history.

The Herd hung with the Flyers via an outstanding offensive performance, hitting 56.9% from the field and making 12 of 23 shots from beyond the arc (52.2%). Sandhills (16-7) also shot well at 51.4%, but took nine more shots. SCC outrebounded BLC 42-30 and forced 21 turnovers while only turning it over 12 times.

Sophomore Domo Hunter led a balanced Herd attack with 18 points. Rich Campbell added 16. Jorge Garcia, Victor Ngong, and Darian Williams each had 14. Mike Maxwell muscled for 10, Zach Haney had 6, and Justin Hurte added 2.

Sayaun Dent led the Flyers with 19 points.

Blue Lights is back in action Saturday when they travel to Vance-Granville CC in Henderson for a 3:00 pm tipoff in the Coaches vs Cancer game.
