This past Saturday the Wrestling Thoroughbreds competed in their first wrestling tournament as a new program at the Virginia Beach Nationals Open.
Travian Cooke (184 lbs) recorded the first wrestling match in BLC history with a 19-3 Technical Fall. Cooke would wrestle on to finish in 3rd place. Logan Perentis (141 lbs) won his first match 18-4 on his way to a 2nd place finish. Cymek Shaw (149 lbs) had a glorious comeback victory his first match. Shaw was down on points 0-5 and came back in the third period to score 7 unanswered points for a 7-5 victory over Joe Davis of Penn State WC . Shaw would battle his way to a 2nd place finish. Patrick Doherty (165 lbs) won by decision over Darek Dabbs of Apprentice 9-4 on his way to a 2nd place finish.
"I was extremely happy to see three of our wrestlers in the finals in our very first tournament as a program," explained coach Blake Risk. "Most of our wrestlers were wrestling up a weight class, but it didn't seem to slow our wrestlers down. I was very happy to see our guys compete and win some tight matches."
