Blue Lights opened its game with Stratford with a solid game plan of denying in the paint, slowing the Cardinals' transition game, and not allowing second-chance points. It worked for most of the first half, before the bigger visitors imposed their will and left with a 91-64 win Saturday afternoon in Apex.

BLC (2-7) jumped out to an early single-digit lead and controlled the tempo early, but could not pull away. then Stratford clawed back, taking the lead at the 6:40 mark of the half 21-20 and never looked back, extending the advantage to 42-29 at the break.

"Our defense broke down in the second half," said BLC head coach Zach Hendricks. The Cardinals (6-2) methodically pulled away before winning by the largest margin of the game.

Dominique Hunter scored 21 points to lead the Thoroughbreds, with Jorge Garcia chipping in 13 and Djuan Coleman adding 12. Stratford's Kendall Shepard led all scorers with 24 points, including five 3-pointers in the first half.

The Herd's next game is Monday, December 11 at Barber-Scotia.
