NFL coaches will sometime say the preseason games don't matter. But for Blue Lights men's basketball coach Mario Pharr, the four open scrimmages provided a time for growth and promise for his young squad.

Oh, and four wins, too.

The Thoroughbreds came out flat in Sunday night's final preseason warmup against the St. Andrews JVs but bounced back to claim a 97-66 win in Laurinburg.

"We're still learning each other some, but from all the games we play much better team basketball," Pharr said after the game. "The point distribution is much more spread out, we're trusting each other, and learning how to play the game easier, which is one of my goals."

While Anthony "Ant" Hill still led the BLC scoring with 15 points, he also tallied four assists and three boards. Kenny Anderson, jr. was close behind with 14 points and three assists, followed by Terrence "TJ" Johnson and Chance "CJ" Jamison both with 12, and Yak Yak with 10. Everyone played, and everyone had stats, if not points.

"I still have some slight changes with the depth charts," added Pharr, "but overall as a team I'm loving the growth!"

The games start to count for real Tuesday at 7:00 pm when Vance-Granville visits Hope Community Church Apex. The BLC women open the doubleheader at 4:00 pm with the Belmont Abbey JVs. Admission for both games is $5 for adults.
