Blue Lights College ran out to a double-digit first half lead, then had to hold on in overtime to claim a rematch win over Barber-Scotia College 111-108 in Concord Monday night.

In the first half, BLC guard Jorge Garcia warmed up a chilly Newsome Gymnasium, scoring 22 of his game-high 27 points before intermission. The Thoroughbreds (3-8) went to the locker room seemingly with the game in hand, up 63-50. But poor play down the stretch let the Sabers back in the game, allowing Barber-Scotia to get a steal and a subsequent off-balance 3-pointer to tie the game and send it to overtime.

The Herd found themselves down by two early in the extra period before Djuan Coleman answered with a three to put them back up by one. Jordan Kirkland hit two shots, including an and-one, and Korey Harris sealed it with two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to give Blue Lights the win.

In addition to Garcia, Coleman scored 22 points, Kirkland added 20, Harris chipped in 17, and Dominique Hunter chalked up 12. Richard Campbell and Hunter each had five assists.

BLC looks for another rematch victory next Monday, December 18, when it travels to Central Carolina for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
